Quiet steps and quieter breaths. A silent shadowy figure phased through the tangle of woven reeds that made up a barrier leading to Riverclan's camp. Honeyleaf scoffed to herself. A futile effort at protecting themselves against unseen enemies. Unseen, but perhaps not unanticipated. Though she was certain that a foe of her own caliber would ever be an option to cross their idiotically contented minds. She'd always been too familiar with the pride of her birthclan, though the reasons for that pride all but eluded her. The warrior's den. Same place as it had been seasons ago when she roamed this ground with the living. Her lithe figure weaved through sleeping forms, avoiding disturbing even a single hair on any pelt with her presence until at last she paused over one particular body. A tingling feeling made every fur of her coat stand out. Was it apprehension at what she was going to attempt? Eagerness? She wasn't sure, but she knew that tonight was the proper time. And this was the one. The cat she'd been waiting to visit since the day she'd found herself to be damned in that wretched, dark, rotten forest out of view of Starclan's light. Her expression was void of any wandering thoughts though, and the creamy tabby bent her head and touched her nose to Tigerhawk's ear. And with that, she and Tigerhawk's dream-self were both transported into a dimly lit forest. Glowing mushrooms highlighted their figures that faced each other, and a gentle mist swirled around their paws and chilled their fur. "Tigerhawk~" Honeyleaf purred. Her expression and voice were as pleasant as her entire appearance: deceptively beautiful as it had been in life. Last Edit: Nov 29, 2015 at 8:37pm by falconswipe

Mist swirled around two alert green eyes before they sharpened and the fog retreated to the trees. Though the mushroom lit forrest was eerie in itself and attention worthy to be sure, Tigerhawk found herself staring down at a rather pretty creamy shecat. Her eyes narrowed at the cat. She was instantaneously wary though this cat looked as if harming her was as far on her agenda as anything. The young shecat knew she was dreaming, or she at least thought. Was she worried that past cats should only be talking to medicine cats? No, not really. Tigerhawk thought they finally had the smarts to notice a strong young warrior like herself. She also didn't expect this was the dark forrest, as clan cats really didn't know about that evil place until Starclan. No, she was thinking this was Starclan and surly a cat from that place would know her name. Perhaps she should keep her mouth shut and let her finish talking, it was only the polite thing. Tigerhawk almost scoffed out loud at the thought. Her, being polite? There's first time for everything I suppose...
So, the shecat stared on unwaveringly. Though she would never admit it, a twinge of something pricked her gut. Was it fear by chance? No, never. As if to prove it she forgot about being 'polite' and asked rather gruffly. "Is this Starclan? Its rather dull..." The last part faded out and she snuck a glance around. It was rather dull...

Also waiting patiently after acquiring the warrior's attention, as if waiting for her to speak first, Honeyleaf's steady gaze never left the darker tabby pelt. Surely this cat wouldn't notice too much being fishy about the dark place, as she seemed to be scanning their scene. Finally the medicine cat purred when the silence was broken. About time. She wasn't expecting this one to hold her tongue so much... "Yes, young one. It's a special part of Starclan, though, that even starry warriors want hide." She glanced around for emphasis and flicked her tail, sending a little mist swirling around her behind. "Even Starclan cats still train as they did in life." She began. But wouldn't it be odd that a medicine cat.... hmm. "Oh! How rude of me. I am Honeyleaf." She turned again to Tigerhawk and bowed her head. "Many, many moons ago before even many generations of your ancestors were born, I was Riverclan's medicine cat. I am here to help you achieve what you already know to be in your destiny."

The warrior looked around, listening vaguely to the shecat's explanation. Her ears pricked at the sound of training Starclan cats. How strange... Why would cats rewarded with eternal peace or whatever train? Surely there where no threats to their existence? Tigerhawk's full attention was not rewarded until this medicine cat, Honeyleaf, mentioned her destiny. So it was true then? Finally, someone who saw her potential. This might have inflated the young warriors confidence, and she stood with a new aura of pride. With her full gaze resting on Honeyleaf she meowed, "How do you plan to do that?" Her question rang out a few heartbeats. Before she added what she was thinking. "Will you ensure that the new deputy position is mine?" It was true, a new deputy would have to be chosen soon. But would this medicine cat really ensure it was a young warrior like herself? Yes, Tigerhawk thought, why should her doubts of being young get in the way of her destiny.

Eager. This was good. Honeyleaf studied the cat, glad to feel the crackling tension in the air lessening as the warrior was slowly molded to the elder cat's words. With a purr, the dilute tabby she-cat bowed her head in understanding of Tigerhawk's questions. "I cannot ensure that you will be chosen as the new deputy this time." She started, but went on to avoid conflict with the ill proposal. "However, deputyship and leadership are to be yours in due time. It is my duty to train and prepare you. Riverclan has a foreboding destiny ahead, and you are the cat to make it right. Power will come into the wrong claws, and it will be your destiny to take it back. Don't you agree? You've known this since you were in the nursery, have you not?" "I implore you put your trust into me, young one. It will always be your destiny to make this happen, but I promise to guide you well. Even medicine cats here may learn the most complex of battle moves that the greatest of warriors have perfected."

Her green eyes slitted further at the first statement and she tensed up. However, this medicine cat did seem to have her best interests in mind and Tigerhawk was feeling, rather forgiving. Honeyleaf's reassurances helped too, of course. Soon she was back to a more relaxed stance, which mainly meant her claws had retreated into her paws and her spine wasn't rigid.
It was hard not to trust this cat, she just seemed so... helpful. Honeyleaf's words made since as well, and she seemed to know as well as Tigerhawk did what she believed laid in her future. The young warrior saw no reason not to trust a cat from Starclan. Her large tabby head nodded her agreement, and her green eyes flashed. "How will you aid me in this task?" Her gaze traveled up and down Honeyleaf. "Where you a well renowned medicine cat? Your name is unfamiliar to me." They where reasonable questions she thought. After all, if Honeyleaf where to lead her on, wouldn't it be normal for her to be curious about her? Grant it, Tigerhawk wasn't always the most curious of cats, but this medicine cat had her very curious in deed.

Scanning the warrior before her carefully with wise eyes and patience in the way her tail waved in a lulling motion behind her, Honeyleaf couldn't help a smile crawling onto her muzzle. A genuine smile, for once. She felt everything falling into place so smoothly. This cat was her key. And perhaps even her promises may not be false if all worked out perfectly. Tigerhawk very well could achieve what she hoped, even should it be under false pretenses. Power was power, after all. "..Oh, I don't like bragging. Though I do think I was quite good at what I did." Oh, that she was, she mused to herself sourly despite her expression remaining pleasant. "Though history has a way of erasure. Some of the most powerful warriors in the history of our clan you know not by name, but by legend. I may have found my way into elders' stories as but a medicine cat in the story of a heroic trio of warriors." It was hard not to share a growl behind her steady purr as images of the past found their way into her mind. The yowling of Riverclan cats as an apprentice stood before their leader, all eyes on her. The assurance of a presence as she had been chased from her home and met with an even more watery grave as six paws all held her against the riverbed with the icy current seeping into her lungs and dragging her to her new home... The following tales of elders that told of a treacherous, murderous medicine cat who was subdued by three heroic warrior cats. Though she wasn't certain if the tales had survived for so long. Shaking her head to switch the subject as deep as her thoughts had been, only a couple of heartbeats had passed them by. "Anyway-- I intend to train you. You will learn various skills through me: Patience and calculation, how to read another cat, fighting... All skills that you will need in the coming seasons should you expect to achieve your goals." She began to pace. The small she-cat traveled twice around Tigerhawk's body, sizing her up and brushing close against her flanks before standing again before her and gazing up into her eyes with determination

Fighting, something she could surely pass with ease. A wry smirk appeared on her maw, faint as the glowing mushrooms around her. Tigerhawk, despite being a proud cat, was still freshly out of her apprentice stage and knew the values of accepting instruction. From certain cats of course, anyone at home might have their ears clawed off if they suggested she was doing something wrong. But Honeyleaf was wise, and old. There was no telling what she could share with the young warrior. Tigerhawk fought of the urge to shiver as Honeyleaf's feathery fur brushed her flanks and her eyes followed the shecat as she circled. Despite wanting to seem calm and collected, the shecat felt a bubble of apprentice-like excitement. Who wouldn't? Not everyone got visited by a Starclan cat! Her claws sunk into the marshy earth and kneaded the ground for a bit. The earth in her pads was soothing, yet it didn't keep the eagerness out of her eyes. "When shall we start, Honeyleaf?" Tigerhawk said the medicine cats name slowly, as if seeing how it rolled of her tongue. She wanted to see what fighting skills Honeyleaf had learned throughout the years, physical tasks where her favorite. Her eyes bored into Honeyleaf showing eagerness, apprehension, and that uncanny mixture of ambition and determination that meant no one was safe if they got in her way.

The deceptive medicine cat could hardly believe how smoothly this plan was beginning. Remaining with a calm, collected expression and patient eyes trained on her new "apprentice", Honeyleaf couldn't help but flick her tail with joy-- the only sign she gave to the emotion. Tigerhawk was a fierce, proud warrior. She would be bent to the Dark Forest's whim without even knowing it. Though should she begin the training on the first visit? Would that be considered too close to rushing into it instead of taking it easy at first? Yet Tigerhawk was already so promising... Honeyleaf felt that if they took it too slow for the warrior's liking, she'd lose interest. Too risky. And before Tigerhawk could even register the fact, the spirit cat had vanished from her field of vision. "Immediately." Her honey-sweet voice dripped into the fur of the younger she-cat's ear from behind, where her mentor now stood and craned her neck to reach. Hoping to have instilled the element of surprise into the new trainee, she strolled back in front of her with a new swagger of confidence to her step. "First lesson: Expect the unexpected. Are you prepared?"

The young warrior smirked as Hobeyleaf's sweet voice trickled into her ear. Though her proud self would never admit it, she was surprised at the medicine cats agile movements. She had actually startled her a bit, perhaps she was more then just a pretty face. Tigerhawk's heavy tail lashed, making the thick mist around it swirl and her whiskers gave a slight twitch. Perfect, they would get started immediately. This is how she liked it, right to business. Hee well kept claws slid out once again, disturbing the earth below her. They glinted ivory and deadly sharp. Her intense gaze narrowed once again, her orbs gleaming in the dull light. They seemed to absorb it, with the slight glow they gave. Her stance hadn't changed much, but her muscles where 'locked and loaded' as one might say. She was ready to move with the slightest twitch Honeyleaf gave. "Always." Came her confident voice. The single word seemed to express many things. It was a challenge of sorts, inviting Honeyleaf to try and surprise her again. She may have been caught off guard the first time, but she was ready now. This medicine cat may have been unexpectedly agile, but so was she. Tigerhawk was ready for her first lesson.

Tigerhawk was given not a heartbeat to finish her one-word reply before the training officially commenced. Honeyleaf had turned exceptionally precisely using her tail for balance and charged back at the warrior with her claws extended and a determined fire in her dark eyes. However, instead of lashing out at her or barreling their bodies together, the nimble deceased cat leaped through the air and landed squarely on the larger she-cat's back, out of reach. She pushed off of her and landed back onto the cold ground a ways away without a sound, whipping back around to face the other.
"You have a little taste of my style now. So predict me!" She demanded, immediately charging again with various swerves in her path that were meant to confuse. Her tail's motions, dictation which way she turned next, was the only indication of what she was to do, which in her mind was to dart to the left and slip right underneath the warrior's belly. It was up to Tigerhawk to see this, though.

Tigerhawk, trained expertly in battle, turned around with nimbleness for a cat half her size. It was a quick, fluid, and precise action. This was her element, she knew every bit and piece of battle training that she could learn from her clan. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as Honeyleaf started her assault again. Tigerhawk made a split second decision deciding that the medicine cat was lunging to her left, Tiger's right. After that was a mystery, but due to her size difference there was a chance she could slip under her torso. It was all careful guessing, but she had fought enough cats to see al sorts of different styles. Honeyleaf's may have been unique, but that didn't faze her. Bunching her hind legs, Tigerhawk lunged nimbly to her right, making sure to stay out of the way of Honeyleaf's barreling form. Safely out of reach, the shecat stuck out her left forepaw, aiming to trip the medicine cat. It might have been treacherous play, but all is fair in the game of war, right? Should she succeed, the young warrior would make an easy pin on the downed shecat. The pin of course, would depend on how she fell. Other times Tigerhakw might have been mocking during a training session, but the little bit of respect she had (It isn't much mind you) told her it would be better not to tease this Starclan cat. Well, at least not on the first day.

This warrior did have skill-- as young as she was. Honeyleaf managed the thought in the midst of the last move as she noticed that her opponent did managed to dodge. She was impressed, she had to admit. But that didn't change the fact that she had been training ruthlessly in this forest since before Tigerhawk's ancestors were born. This youngster had plenty to learn yet. Stifling a growl, the medicine cat dug into the soft ground with her claws and ripped at the earth in order to change her direction again in a fraction of a heartbeat. She felt Tigerhawk's paw just barely graze her fur in that instant, and used the fact that the warrior was now to be off-balanced to her advantage. Before the warrior could replace her paw to brace herself, Honeyleaf charged with new strength and barreled her head into her apprentice's sturdy shoulder. Though she was small, she definitely had it in her to pack a punch, which should send the warrior sprawling onto her unbalanced side.

In her attempt to trip Honeyleaf, she was indeed off balanced. So when the smaller cats head shoved into her shoulder she stumbled to her left. For a precarious heartbeat, a wide eyed Tigerhawk swayed and teetered on three paws before falling to her side. The warrior scrambled in a tangle of limbs to get up, lashing out in the process with fully unsheathed paws. Though ungraceful, it would be most unfortunate to strike at her when her heavy paws and tail where whipping about. Chances where, any cat would get hit. Now, during this process the young warrior had grown increasingly... upset. She was not only surprised that her tripping trick didn't work, but angry. Her hot head had never gotten her in too much trouble before, it usually just made her more ruthless. Unfortunately for Tigerhawk, Honeyleaf was the kind of cat that would probably use that to her advantage.

Not being able to help a light smirk when the warrior toppled over, the expression was quickly wiped from the trainer's face. She dodged the lethal flailing of paws and claws, jumping backwards and only observing the cat's struggle to regain her stance. Honeyleaf stood with narrowed eyes boring into Tigerhawk's pelt, studying the situation and making no further move to continue the "fight". "Focus, young one." She murmured wisely, chin raised higher. "...Your fury at failure only makes you more vulnerable. This is not true battle, but training: Remember that. Mistakes will be made, but it's your duty to learn from them." She began a slight pace, circling her apprentice. "...While flailing on your side did keep me from getting in a dangerous attack at your underbelly... giving into panic and frustration only makes your composure worse. Do not forget that fooling your opponent into thinking you're vulnerable is far from actually being in a truly weak position. Should you have taken your time, I may have gotten cocky. That would be when you lash out with calculation and even greater precision to prove me wrong." While Tigerhawk's ruthlessness in battle could get her to some necessary points in her journey, it was too dangerous to ignore her temper and impatience. Should she lose her head at the wrong moment, it may ruin her chances at working her way through the ranks. However, a combination of brute power and calculation in this cat could ensure victory for the both of them... TAGGED | NOTES | WORDS | - | Indeed >:3c | 252 |

Huffing, the warrior rolled to her paws, claws still unsheathed as she was unsure if the battle had ended at first. Seeing no threat coming from her mentor she eased herself up from the defensive position and glared. Tigerhawk's eyes went downcast for a second as she nodded, before snapping back up. She wasn't going to be caught unprepared again. Her maw stayed firmly shut as her head followed the medicine cats every move and she soaked up her every word, knowing them to be true. The young warrior lashed her tail in aggravation. It wasn't that easy just to calm down. Taking a deep breath, she nodded her head in acknowledgement, and meowed through gritted teeth. "Should we try again? ...After all, practice makes perfect." The last part came out in a slight scoff, as the shecat was still in her temper. Honeyleaf didn't cease to supprise her. Who would have thought of a battle smart medicine cat? I suppose she has been up here for a long time...

Swishing her tail from side to side, the medicine cat continued pacing, circling the warrior as her claws tore up little bits of the ground that she tread upon. And her claws were unusually long and sharp, for a medicine cat. She took care of them and kept them sharp using the stones and rough bark of the trees that made up the forest she called her home. It was one of the things she prided herself on, aside from her beauty in general. How vain. Honeyleaf smirked a tad at Tigerhawk's rather sarcastic offer. At least she seemed to be trying. "Very well~" She purred. Again she ran at the warrior, but this time she passed her by a decent distance. Instead, she launched herself upon a tree behind her and clambered up quickly. The darkness, mist, and large branches concealed her in a few heartbeats, and it seemed as though she had all but vanished. She leaped from branch to branch, the wood only creaking once or twice which pinpointed the light she-cat's location too scarcely. Where she would emerge from, who knew?

Tigerhawk made a rather futile lunge for the medicine cats tail and missed by a mouse-length. Hissing and growling under her breath, she glared at the pine that the shecat had disappeared up. Part of her wanted to call Honeyleaf cowardly for running off, but she knew it was most likely a prod at her shriveling patience. Oh the irony that she'd get so frustrated at this meager training session. So much for starting out on a strong note... This cat was making a fool of her! Yet, this poke at her weak spots was also, probably, Honeyleaf's way of helping. After all, any cat with a temper such as hers would surely not make a good leader. Yes, Tigerhawk decided, this is Honeyleaf's way of helping. Still, she found herself annoyed with her antics. The young warrior did try through to keep her composure as the Starclan cat had suggested. Lashing her tail and extending her sharp ivory claws, Tigerhakw gazed up, her head cocking and swiveling to every faint creak. Even with her good eyesight the boughs where shrouded in mist and shadow. Still grumbling under her breath, she padded to the nearest tree, a stately rock hard pine, and was making to climb it before she asked herself if that was smart. Now, normally Tigerhawk would just do it and be confident that all would work out, but she was truly trying hard to find a scrap of dignity by impressing Honeyleaf. She wasn't the best in trees, her bulk made some awful noise when she was up there. But, on the ground she was vulnerable to an attack from above. Kneading the earth, Tigerhawk decided to take her chance on the ground. She stopped the angry rumble in her chest and thanked Starclan for her striped pelt, which she hoped would help her stay concealed in the shadows. The warrior hadn't thought far past the fact that she was going to try patience over vengeance. Heck, she didn't even know how she was going to evade an attack from the trees. Still sour, Tigerhawk slinked in the shadows, weaving and winding through various trees so she stayed in the darkest shadows. The little clearing where the two cats had been training earlier was barely visible, but Tigerhawk kept it in sight should Honeyleaf jump to the ground. Now, as much as Tigerhawk hated it, it was a waiting game. Really, it just depended on who found who first.

All the while as she stalked from branch to branch silently and lightly as she could tread, dark brown eyes were planted on the warrior constantly. She noted the initial idea that Tigerhawk seemed to have in pursuing her up the tree. No, mouse-brain! She called out in her mind, narrowing her eyes as if mentally trying to will the warrior against the idea. Luckily, it had been thought better of. Both of them knew that a bulky warrior would do no good in these branches. Now the tabby was beginning her move as well. A game of cat and mouse it had turned into... well, rather.. cat and cat. hm. Honeyleaf stayed in place for a few heartbeats, allowing her apprentice to gain some fox-lengths of ground ahead before following along from side to side as the tree limbs allowed. When their initial meeting point was hidden against the tree line, Honeyleaf readied herself to pounce. Perched lightly above the warrior at an angle behind her, the medicine cat's rear waggled as she bunched the muscles in her hind quarters. However, a small twig that was pressed by her hind leg snapped sharply, easily audible from the forest floor. But it was too late to change her mind, as her balance was already sending her halfway off of her perch already. Rather than ungraciously scrabbling back into cover, the light ginger she-cat used the last of her momentum to launch herself down at the warrior, forepaws outstretched and claws unsheathed to make a grab at Tigerhawk's back. The warrior's eyes widened at the loud crack that reverberated around the eerily quiet forrest. Her first reaction was to reel around and face it, which on her part was a rather foolish move for she was met with the sight of Honeyleaf flying towards her face, claws extended. She only had half a heartbeat to be shocked at the sight of her out stretched claws. In a desperate attempt to save her eyes, she lunged to her side and landed heavily one a single forepaw, grunting at the impact. Using the other paw as leverage to swing herself agilely around, Tigerhawk faced where Honeyleaf's claws would have surely met with her back. Not wasting a second she surged forward and made to tackle the medicine cat from behind, as she was busy recovering from her landing. Unless she had eyes in the back of her head, Tiger wasn't sure if she did or not at this point, she wouldn't have time to see her coming and move. The warriors intent was to get a ground brawl going, as she would excel at this with her larger size and thick, well maintained claws. At the thought of claws a question surged through her head concerning training and sheathed claws. However, being the rather ruthless cat she was, she didn't have a moments hesitation to shed blood as the image of a leaping Honeyleaf filled her mind, in which she undoubtedly had exposed claws. In fact, the thought of a little 'fun' made Tigerhakw smirk...

Yowling with shock when her paws were met harshly with sturdy ground rather than pliable fur above another's body, Honeyleaf was stunned for a moment with the ache in her legs upon the hard impact. A wince entered her face, but she wasn't exactly down yet. Tigerhawk surely would not give up in the new session, and a split-second looming feeling raised the fur along her spine. She whipped back around, just in time to be barreled onto her back as the large tabby slammed into her front. She hissed and scrabbled for a short moment in confusion, before settling down and staring up at the warrior with a surprised look in her eye. Though something was somewhat off about her expression. The warrior didn't look like she was done even now, with her mentor limp under her. This brought an equal smirk upon the medicine cat's face, the two now looking at one another with smug expressions of their own. That blood thirst could yet be honed in time to their advantages. While Tigerhawk may have had in mind some vengeance of a sort with the pinned cat, she would have trouble in inflicting wounds on one that had already met their demise long before. Honeyleaf made a conscious choice to sheathe her own claws though. Unlike herself, the living warrior could retain wounds from this dream in the waking realm. "Well done~" She praised with her characteristic soft voice. "A lucky break, but even still."

Tigerhawk smirked proudly down at Honeyleaf, and even grinned as the medicine cat sheathed her claws. The fiery light in her eyes didn't die however and in the heat of the moment she might have lashed out. Though when the medicine cat spoke she held her claws. She accepted the praise readily enough, but didn't pull off quite yet, she was wary of tricks. Her 'victory' would not be lost so easy. Still full of raw pride, she lent in close and meowed in Honeyleaf's ear. Her voice was cold and mocking, "Lucky breaks, can get the cat on the other end killed." Deciding the old Riverclan cat was defeated for now, she pulled off slowly and took a single step back. She gazed smugly as the medicine cat got to her feet. Her stance was tall and her tail tip twitched like a metronome. Sheathing her claws, Tigerhawk rolled her shoulders and licked her maw. She would wait to see what else Honeyleaf had to say. After all, she was her new mentor. .

Narrowing her eyes with suspicion when Tigerhawk leaned down to her face, the ghost of a cat listened to the "advice" of the warrior with a thoughtful look. So she really was so sure of herself now, was she? She had much to learn of the powers of this forest and its inhabitants yet. Relaxing only a fraction when she was let up, Honeyleaf took a rather different approach at standing again. Her form dissolved into the mist along the forest floor before Tigerhawk's very eyes; Not a wisp of her was left. "True enough. But even you may have a hard time killing something that's already dead." She mewed. Her voice was now behind the warrior as Honeyleaf's form re-emerged in the same space in the same mist-like fashion, as if the wind carrying wisps of her laid the pieces into place like a fine pattern until she was a complete cat again. But now for a little constructive criticism. "I saw what you were planning." She began. "The intention of wrestling with your opponent on the ground in that position would have given you the best of advantages against most of the other clan cats. For your strength and size, that is." She nodded and flicked her tail. Part of her was a little disappointed that it hadn't been time to continue with more physical attacks, but Tigerhawk would be warmed up to it in time. As with any apprentice, the training would start slower. "Though, tell me. Once you have your opponent pinned and defeated in that position, what will you do then?"
